Hi! I’m ML “Romana” McIntosh, but you can call me Ro.
My life passions are rock music, good coffee and great writing. Let me leverage my expertise and skills for your project. With over a dozen manuscripts written and more than half a dozen books edited across three commercial genres, I bring not only the attention to detail and knowledge of a great editor, but the passion it takes to transform good writing into a great story.
I am a book editor, fiction author, musician, educator, microbiologist and doctor. Yes, both kinds of doctor: the MD and PhD kind. I help authors hone their craft through intensive coaching or developmental editing. I can also tighten up your beloved manuscript so she can sail the high seas of whatever your preferred retailer is with copy editing and proofreading! I am a lover of the written word, and yes! That includes YOURS.
My parents taught me to read before I started kindergarten and it’s been a love affair ever since. As you might expect from my training, science-fiction and science fact are my content strengths- but I also adore ALL fantasy. I graduated from Cornell University in 2006 with a double major in English and Biology. I went on to complete my PhD in Microbiology and MD at University of Louisville, and about a year of medical residency at University of Cincinnati. I have completed several hours of editorial training recently and am a member of the EFA (Editorial Freelancers Association), as well as other memberships, writing groups, and continuing education resources.
My most recent client is Geoffrey Mandragora. I worked as writing coach, developmental editor, line editor and copy editor on both of his current urban fantasy series.
I’ve been told I take myself too seriously- but, hey! Telling stories is one of the most fundamental human actions, I think, and that’s pretty serious stuff!
Writing can feel like a big job, don't do it alone!
